The Director Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) Dr. Christian Madubuko has arrested and detained former Ogbaru Relief Market Chairman, Mr. Ogbogwu for diverting the sum of ₦3.1m (three million, one hundred thousand naira only) revenue generated from the market.
Ogbogwu who is undergoing interrogation in police custody has paid part of the money using an electronic money transfer as part of his bail conditions. He is expected to fully meet the bail conditions and complete payment to the AIRS as soon as he regains freedom.
Dr Madubuko therefore call on the good citizens of Anambra State to always pay their taxes as at when due to enable government effectively tackle sectoral challenges facing public administration in the state.
He also appealed to the good people of Anambra State to always be at alert and to report suspected illegal revenue collectors to the AIRS office or the nearest police station. Eradicating illegal revenue collectors is in line with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to create enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
“Gone is the era of indiscriminate exploitation of traders, investors and other taxpayers in the state. Gone also is the era of swindling government in pretext of generating revenue which never drops into the designated accounts.
“The AIRS is poised to reposition revenue generation in the state in line with best practices and economic considerations, while eliminating multiple taxation which in effect annoys investors and tends to affect businesses negatively”, he said.
