An illustrious daughter of Igbo land Lady juliet Anarme (AdaOzubulu) has shared her thoughts over the declining economic condition of South East states as a result of the weekly sit-at-home excercise imposed on the region by the the protagonists of Independent State of BIAFRA.
In an exclusive interview with Citypost, the young philanthropist shared her views about the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and its implications on the lingering spikes of insecurity in the region.
Lady Anaeme lamented the excruciating economic condition of the South East region, which she blamed on the inefficient handling of sensitive issues that affects the businesses and livelihood of nigerian citizens, especially the good people of South Eastern region.
She narrated her experience during separate visits to the North and South West where business activities keeps booming on Mondays whereas Ndigbo who are known for commercial activities are unfortunately being restricted from growing their businesses due to the ongoing agitation for justice, equity and fairness within the area.
During an exclusive interview with Citypost, Lady Juliet Anarme did not only list the problems, but also proffered solutions to end the growing spate of insecurity in the region through institutional dialogue and stakeholders engagement.
She therefore called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, IPOB, ESN, Ebube-Agu, Simon Ekpa, all leaders of thought and other aggrieved citizens to seek a common ground of resolving the country’s lingering security challenges, noting that overlooking security infringement in a region widely adjudged as the commercial nerve center of Sub-Saharan Africa will certainly spell doom for national unity, and consequently impair economic growth in no small measure.
In her special appeal to the agitators, AdaOzubulu stated;
“I feel deeply pained that in our quest for justice and fairness, we have brought untold hardship to our kind who are mostly known for their strong spirit of enterprise and ability to strive for the progress and common good of their fellow human beings.
“Let us review the merits and demerits of this sit-at-home excercise and discontinue it if it has done us more harm than good. On the other hand, I call on the federal authorities to consider immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for the sake of peace to enable us restore sanity and boost productivity in the South-East region as a means of protecting overriding public interest in the country.
“The more we stay at home on Mondays without carrying out our routine economic activities the more we cripple our economy and expose ourselves to danger, considering that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Continous closure of our major markets in Onitsha, Nnewi and other commercial areas does not really affect government, rather it will continue to subject more of our traders in the area to more hardship as a result of dwindling business activities.
“To check that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu lost his own freedom in his quest to secure freedom for the masses is something that should worry any sane mind because that gesture was no mean fit for a Prince who forfeited all his royal privileges and embraced the struggle to emancipate his people whom he felt were being maltreated in an enclave they sacrificed so much to build.
“I have a strong feeling that if Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is given an opportunity to air his views about the sit-at-home excercise, he will opt for an end to the closure of our markets because he wouldn’t want his people to continue recording huge loses in the course of observing the weekly sit-at-home order^, she said.
Speaking further, Lady Anaeme described the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a very big slap on Ndigbo while rging elected governors of the South-East zone to unite in ensuring peaceful co-existence of citizens and advancement of trade and investment in the area.
She expressed joy for the fact that Governor Hope Uzodimma recently embarked on an official visit to Governor the Lagos State Sanwo Olu with a view to ascertain the rationale behind the indiscriminate demolition of properties belonging to Ndigbo.
She lamented the excruciating economic hardship of having to close down Onitsha main market, Ariaria Aba, Nnewi market, Ogbete Enugu and many others, contending that Ndigbo do not deserve such punishment for striving to make ends meet in their globally acknowledged field of endeavour.
