Anambra State appears to be consistent in leading the academic excellence among Nigerian states in recent times. Besides consistently producing overall winners in JAMB and other related examinations, the state keeps representing and doing Nigeria proud educationally ~ Citypost Reports.
The latest news of the state’s academic potentials is the landmark win at the 2023 Malaysian International Debate Championship for which the Governor of Anambra State Prof Chukwuma Soludo CFR has expressed delight according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Christian Aburime as presented below:
Amid a positive trend defining educational excellence in Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has expressed excitement over yet another feat, this time attained on a global stage by the Anambra State-led Team Nigeria as overall winners of the 2023 Malaysian International Bilateral Debate Championship.
Congratulating the winning Team Nigeria, Governor Soludo enthused that this latest remarkable achievement is a further evidence of the relentless world-class scholarly excellence for which Nigerians in general, and Anambra State students in particular, are known for.
Organized annually by The Malaysian International Schools Debate Education Society (MISDES) under the patronage of the Malaysia Ministry of Education, the debate championship is meant to promote global intellectualism and world peace initiatives among young thinkers through advocacy and debate.
Interestingly, the 2023 championship showcased the brightest minds from around the world. The competition witnessed intense debates and thought-provoking discussions as teams from Nigeria, India, China, Singapore and Pakistan traded intellectual tackles, after which Team Nigeria emerged overall winners.
But the journey to global glory for the Anambra State-led Nigeria Debate Team started from Nigeria. As MISDES every year invites some National Debate Teams to participate in their Championship, Team Nigeria was duly represented by the Anambra State Debate Team that won the Nigeria Inter-State Debate.
Then, Team Nigeria won Team Hin Hua of the Kuala Lumpur region in the quarter finals to qualify for the semi-finals.
Later, Team Nigeria again beat Team Pin Hwa, which comprised international students from India, China, Singapore and Pakistan.
In the finals, Team Nigeria battled for the Masters with the Malaysian National Team and won overall.
Thus, Governor Soludo commended the outstanding leadership of the Anambra State Debate Team, whose stage-by-stage brilliant performances have brought the laurel to Nigeria.
According to the governor, this resounding victory reflects the amazing depth of talent, scholarship and eloquence that Anambra State nurtures and cultivates as the government continues to prioritize educational reforms and favourable learning environment.
The students’ exceptional performance not only brings pride to Anambra State but also exemplifies the significance of investing in quality education and nurturing our youth to become global thought leaders.
He commended the Ministry of Education under the leadership of Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh and her team
It would be recalled that Governor Soludo in June this year also celebrated 16 years old Miss Kamsiyochukwu Umeh, from Anambra State, as the best candidate in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations [UTME] who scored a total of 360 out of 400 marks.
