The newly elected Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government, Honourable Chijioke Ihunwo, has issued a stern message to Barrister Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stating that his dominance over the political landscape in Rivers State has been effectively dismantled.
Mr. Ihunwo pointed out that the same strategies Wike once used against his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, are now being turned against him.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt after casting his ballot, Ihunwo emphasized that Rivers State has only one governor, and Wike, who led the state for eight years, should allow the current governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to govern without interference.
“Nyesom Wike cannot control Rivers State from Abuja. We have one governor, and that is Sir Siminalayi Fubara. Wike’s time has passed, and he must step aside to let Fubara carry out his duties,” Ihunwo stated.
He further accused Wike of meddling in state affairs to protect his own political interests, particularly concerning the political structure of Rivers State.
“The political structure Wike is fighting to maintain has been taken over. The people of Rivers have spoken, and Wike no longer holds the reins,” Ihunwo asserted.
Drawing a comparison, Ihunwo remarked that Wike’s current situation mirrors the treatment he once dished out to former governor Rotimi Amaechi.
“Exactly what Wike did to Amaechi is happening to him now. It’s a case of karma catching up,” Ihunwo noted, pointing out the poetic justice in Wike’s political downfall.
Ihunwo also criticized Wike’s recent participation in protests in Rivers State, recalling how Wike had previously ridiculed Atiku’s supporters for protesting, dismissing them as “Student Union Government (SUG) leaders.”
“Today, Wike himself is leading respected men in protests on the streets of Port Harcourt. It just goes to show that what goes around, comes around,” Ihunwo concluded.
