
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially set the date for the next Anambra governorship election. The election will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, as announced by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during a briefing with political party representatives at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 17.
Prof. Yakubu highlighted the upcoming electoral schedule, stating:
“As you are aware, the last governorship election in Anambra State occurred on November 6, 2021. With the completion of the current term, the next governorship election is due in 2025.”
The commission laid out the following timeline:
Notice of Election: To be published on November 13, 2024.
Party Primaries: Scheduled between March 20, 2025, and April 10, 2025.
Candidate Nomination Portal: Opens at 9:00 AM on April 18, 2025, and closes at 6:00 PM on May 12, 2025.
Final List of Candidates: To be published on June 9, 2025.
Campaigns by Political Parties: Can begin on June 11, 2025, and must end by midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
Prof. Yakubu further announced that the election will be conducted across all 5,720 Polling Units in the state, and that INEC will soon provide additional details on voter registration, voter transfers, and PVC replacements.
