The Member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Hon Peter Aniekwe has taken a significant step toward improving security and community welfare by providing renewable energy through solar-powered street lights to villages across his constituency. This initiative is part of his ongoing commitment to tackle security challenges, enhance communal life, and foster a sense of unity among residents.
The project aims to restore the vibrant nightlife in these rural areas, where both young and old can come together to share stories, engage in cultural conversations, and enjoy social gatherings under the safety of well-lit streets. Importantly, Hon. Aniekwe’s light-up project extends beyond community bonding, as it also contributes to the development of the younger generation. The constant availability of solar-powered light encourages children to pursue their educational and personal goals, creating a nurturing environment for learning and skill acquisition.
In addressing the necessity of the project, Hon. Aniekwe highlighted the challenges posed by Nigeria’s power supply deficit, especially in rural communities. “Nigeria faces a significant power supply gap due to limited generation capacity and inadequate transmission infrastructure. Rural areas like ours are particularly affected by this inconsistency, which makes projects like this essential,” he explained.
He urged community members to maintain the equipment, stating, “I expect these communities to use the street lights judiciously and take good care of them so that they will serve for a long time.”
With the installation of 75 solar-powered lights already recorded, the ongoing installation at Igbariam community, including Village 1, 2, and 3 Okpuno Igbariam, highlights Hon. Aniekwe’s dedication to bringing sustainable development to his constituency. His vision and leadership have been widely praised, demonstrating a deep commitment to improving the lives of his constituents and securing a brighter future for all.
