Hon. Aniekwe facilitates Training, provides Essential Equipment to Constituency Farmers

The member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Peter Aniekwe, has launched a significant empowerment and training initiative aimed at supporting local farmers in Igbokenyi, Anambra West LGA, and Igbariam Farm Settlement, Anambra East LGA. The program, held at the constituency office, saw the distribution of essential farming equipment, including irrigation pumping machines and water guns, to participating farmers.

The training, which began at 10:30 a.m on November 2, 2024, was attended by dignitaries and local agricultural leaders, emphasizing the program’s potential to increase agricultural productivity, particularly during the dry season.

Mr. Obren Akudu, Acting Executive Director of the Anambra-Imo River Basin, represented the Managing Director, Engr. Gerrard Osuagwu, and highlighted the need for farmers to adopt modern irrigation techniques to boost crop yields. He commended Hon. Aniekwe for prioritizing agricultural growth, noting that the initiative would enable constituents to achieve a more sustainable livelihood through farming.

In his address to participants, Hon. I.K. Aniakor encouraged farmers to remain committed and diligent, assuring them that this second phase of empowerment would significantly enhance their output and foster long-term success in agriculture.

Chief Hon. Sylvester Nnalue, known as Ugonabo Anam, also expressed gratitude for Hon. Aniekwe’s dedication to food security in the constituency. He urged the participants to bring the knowledge gained from the training back to their communities, ensuring widespread agricultural improvement across the region.

Speaking to a Citypost correspondent, Hon. Peter Aniekwe described the essence of the program, stating, “This initiative is designed to empower our farmers with the necessary tools and training to thrive, especially during challenging dry seasons. By providing modern irrigation equipment and hands-on training, we are not only boosting food production in Anambra East and West but also building a foundation for economic self-reliance. I am confident that these efforts will drive higher yields, strengthen food security, and inspire a new generation of farmers within our communities.”

Hon. Aniekwe further emphasized the transformative impact of agriculture on local development, pledging continued support for similar initiatives to help address food scarcity and reduce hunger across his constituency.
