The Alaigbo Achievers Legacy has announced the official close of nominations for The Great Igbo Achievers Awards today, November 15, 2024. The highly anticipated event aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions by Igbo individuals and others positively influencing the Igbo community.
As the nomination phase ends, the focus now shifts to the recommendation process. A 7-member Selection Committee, chaired by Chief Simon Okeke, former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, is tasked with identifying and evaluating nominees. The Committee will undertake site visits to impacted Igbo communities, scrutinize online and empirical records, and assess the achievements of the nominees. Their findings will be submitted within 30 days, by December 15, 2024.
Once completed, the recommendations will be forwarded to the 24-member Alaigbo Elders Council for final review. This council holds the ultimate decision-making authority, ensuring that the awards reflect the highest standards of excellence and integrity.
The awards ceremony, scheduled for late December 2024, promises to be a landmark event, drawing prominent figures from Igboland and beyond to celebrate the achievements and contributions of the honorees.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the Director General of the Alaigbo Achievers Legacy, His Lordship Justice Alpha Ikpeama, highlighted the organization’s commitment to promoting development, peace, and security in Igboland. He emphasized that these elements are critical for maximizing the potential of the industrious Igbo people.
“This awards program goes beyond recognition; it is about fostering an environment where Igbo excellence thrives and inspires others globally,” Ikpeama said.
Organized in collaboration with the United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide, The Great Igbo Achievers Awards seeks to honor landmark achievements and legacy projects primarily by Igbo men and women, while also acknowledging others whose work benefits the Igbo community. The initiative aims to set a global benchmark of excellence and encourage Ndigbo to showcase themselves as role models in all aspects of life.
