The Great Igbo Achievers Awards have officially moved to the next phase as nominations concluded on November 15, 2024. The recommendation process is now underway, following established procedures aimed at ensuring integrity and fairness.
A seven-member selection committee, chaired by Chief Simon Okeke, former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, has been tasked with evaluating the nominees. The committee will conduct visits to nominees’ communities, analyze online and empirical records, and assess candidates’ contributions to the upliftment of Ndigbo and Igboland. Landmark achievements and legacy projects will form the basis of their recommendations for the awards.
The awards, conceptualized to honor individuals and groups who have positively influenced Igboland, aim to celebrate hard work, dedication, and integrity. The committee is expected to complete its evaluations and submit recommendations to the 24-member Alaigbo Elders Council by December 15, 2024.
The final decisions will be made by the Alaigbo Elders Council, with the awards ceremony slated for late December 2024. The event will attract prominent dignitaries and stakeholders from across Igboland, Nigeria, and the global Igbo community.
Promoting Igbo Excellence
The Alaigbo Achievers Legacy, in partnership with the United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide, is dedicated to highlighting the achievements of Ndigbo. Its vision includes creating a global benchmark for excellence and inspiring Igbo individuals to serve as role models.
Speaking about the initiative, Justice Alpha Ikpeama, Director General of the Alaigbo Achievers Legacy, emphasized the organization’s focus on development, peace, and security in Igboland. He highlighted that an atmosphere of stability and safety is essential for boosting productivity and sustaining economic growth in the region.
A Legacy for the Future
As part of its long-term plans, the Great Igbo Achievers will embark on the construction of a Legacy Building in Enugu, the historic capital of the Old Eastern Region. This building will house the Igbo Hall of Fame, where deserving achievers will be immortalized for future generations to admire.
Membership in the organization is open to purpose-driven Igbo men and women from all fields of human endeavor who share the vision and mission of the Great Igbo Achievers.
This initiative serves as a clarion call for Ndigbo worldwide to unite in nation-building and elevate the collective Igbo heritage on the global stage. Be part of the movement, and join the Great Igbo Achievers.
