…….Recovers arms as IGP rewards 7 PPROs

The Anambra State Police Command has neutralized a notorious kidnapper alleged to have been involved in several abductions over the past two years.
This development coincides with the recognition of seven Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., for their exemplary performance.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga:
“Joint Security Operatives comprising the Police and Anambra Vigilantes on 22/11/2024 at about 10:30 am neutralized a member of an armed robbery gang operating along Nkwo Enugu-Ukwu Road. The operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and five rounds of live ammunition.”
SP Ikenga explained that the joint security team acted on credible intelligence about the gang’s planned activities in the area.
“The operatives engaged the criminals in a gun duel, neutralizing one member of the gang while others fled with bullet wounds. Security dominance has been intensified in the area, and operations against the fleeing suspects are ongoing,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police rewarded outstanding PPROs during the 2024 Conference of Police Public Relations Officers and Communications Experts, which was held in Asaba, Delta State, from November 18 to November 21, 2024.
Themed “Strengthening the Nigeria Police Force Oversight and Accountability”, the conference equipped PPROs with skills in effective communication, public accountability, and trust-building. It featured sessions led by resource persons, NGOs, international organizations, and experts in public relations and related fields.
At the regimental dinner marking the close of the event, the IGP, represented by the Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, presented awards and commendations to PPROs from FCT, Bauchi, Anambra, Delta, Kano, and Abia States. ASP Julius Robinson, a tactical team commander in the Delta State Command, was also recognized for exceptional service.
The IGP described the conference as a milestone in advancing effective policing strategies.
“This event is a testament to the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to improved oversight, accountability, and quality service delivery. I extend my gratitude to His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State, and the good people of Delta for their hospitality in hosting this conference,” the IGP stated.
He further encouraged the public to support the police’s innovative approaches to enhancing safety and security for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
