Ahead of the February 2025 elections, the United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide (UNIEC) has issued a call for nominations to fill a wide range of offices. The announcement was contained in a statement signed by His Lordship, Justice Alpha Ikpeama, the Director-General, and Prof. Obasi Igwe, Director of Media and Publicity. This development underscores UNIEC’s dedication to fostering inclusivity, leadership balance, and unity among the Igbo people globally.

Note that the positions of National Grand Patron and Life Patron are reserved for individuals with proven professional and leadership integrity, which is subject to the decision of the 24 Elders Advisory Council, (the IME OBI OF UNIEC), in line with their mandate as UNIEC’s highest decision making body.
Stakeholders (youth)and Women Affairs:
Conscientises and mobilizes both stakeholders (youths) and women into patriotic leadership roles and preparedness for transition into worthy elders.
The offices at the national level are replicated at other levels consistent with their respective capacities.
Every office shall have a Deputy, who shall discharge the functions of the office in the absence of the principal or when delegated to do so.
UNIEC’s Broader Mission
UNIEC is a non-partisan and independent council of Igbo elders dedicated to advocating for the interests of the Igbo people and fostering inclusivity. The organization extends membership opportunities to non-Igbo allies through its Stakeholder Membership and Associate Membership categories. These initiatives aim to build bridges and strengthen bonds among diverse groups committed to nation-building.
In recent years, UNIEC has played a crucial role in addressing critical challenges in the Igbo region. Their efforts include advocacy for the modernization of Igbo ports, campaigns for the release of detained leaders like Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and fostering unity across coastal and interior Igbo communities. UNIEC also actively promotes restructuring to address longstanding grievances from the Civil War era, such as the economic blockade’s lingering impact.
The provisional allocation of offices comes as UNIEC prepares for the upcoming elections, signaling its commitment to strong and effective leadership. 1) All 7 State Chapter Presidents automatically become National Vice Presidents.
2) There shall be one International Vice President, to cover the international Diaspora.
3) Apart from the 7 Igbo states, all other states in Nigeria are classified as Local Diaspora Chapters run by their State Executive Council.
