The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) has announced its intention to honor governors who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to tackling insecurity in their states, emphasizing that security remains a cornerstone for sustainable economic development.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the implementation of effective policies and strategies to guarantee the safety of lives and property.
In a statement jointly signed by His Lordship Justice Alpha Ikpeama and Prof. Obasi Igwe, UNIEC commended the South-East Governors Forum, led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, for its ongoing efforts to address insecurity in the region.
The council urged the forum to intensify these efforts, as a secure environment is indispensable for regional growth and prosperity.
Furthermore, the council announced the rescheduling of its Great Igbo Achievers Legacy Awards initially slated for December 2024. The awards ceremony, designed to honor distinguished Igbo sons and daughters who have excelled in various fields, will now take place on April 23, 2025.
According to the statement, the decision to postpone the event was necessitated by the limited time available for the committee responsible for assessing and finalizing recommendations for nominees.
UNIEC reaffirmed its dedication to promoting excellence, security, and development within the Igbo community and beyond, pledging to continually recognize and celebrate individuals and leaders who contribute to the advancement of Igboland.
