Senator Uche Ekwunife celebrates the cultural milestones of Uchechi Nworah (Iyom Ugomba) of Umuakwu village, Enugwu-ukwu, Njikoka LGA, and Dr. Ngozi Vin-Agbata, (Iyom Ojiefi Ijele) of Uruofolo village, Ancient Nri Kingdom, marking a proud moment for the preservation of Igbo tradition.
Senator Uche Ekwunife, a strong advocate for the preservation of Igbo culture and tradition, graced two significant events in Anambra State today, underscoring her unwavering support for the advancement of Igbo heritage.
The Senator attended the induction of Mrs. Uchechi Nworah as Iyom Ugomba of Umuakwu village, Njikoka Council Area, held at the residence of Chief Uche Nworah. The colourful ceremony witnessed a large turnout of dignitaries and family members, who came together in the spirit of the Christmas season to celebrate this milestone.
In her congratulatory remarks, Senator Ekwunife described the honor bestowed on Iyom Uchechi Nworah as deserving and timely, emphasizing the deep and cherished relationship between the Ekwunife and Nworah families. She applauded Iyom Uchechi’s contributions to the community and commended Chief Nworah’s efforts in promoting Igbo cultural values.
Chief Uche Nworah, while expressing gratitude for Senator Ekwunife’s presence, described her as a family friend and a passionate supporter of Igbo culture. He hinted at his upcoming personal chieftaincy title ceremony, urging friends and associates to continue championing the preservation of Igbo traditions.
Similarly, Senator Ekwunife joined the Ancient Nri Kingdom to celebrate the induction of Dr. Ngozi Vin-Agbata into the Otu Odu Society as Iyom Ojiefi Ijele of Uruofolo village. In her congratulatory message, Ekwunife lauded Dr. Vin-Agbata’s dedication to community service and described her initiation as a testament to her exemplary leadership and impact in the society.
The Senator highlighted the significance of the Otu Odu Society in sustaining the cultural heritage of Ndigbo and commended both honorees for embracing the responsibilities of their titles with grace and dignity.
The occasion brought back fond memories of Senator Ekwunife’s own induction into the Otu Odu Society. At the age of 31, she became the youngest Iyom in Igboland, Iyom-Ugochinyerezenanwata, a title conferred on her by the revered Eze Nri who also made her a member of Ndi Alo Eze, (meaning a member of the prestigious King’s Advisory Council), s position she has held since then till date.
Interestingly, these noble recognitions took place while she served as an area manager of a leading bank. Reflecting on her experience, the Senator highlighted the significance of such titles in preserving Igbo heritage and inspiring women to take up roles that strengthen communal values.
Senator Ekwunife was accompanied to the events by Larry Jnr and wife Jessica, Hon. Mrs. Ify Chinwuko, Dr. Kene Chinedu, Chief Agbachukwu Ezeife, Hon. Eddy Nwokike and other prominent personalities. Both ceremonies reflected the rich culture of Igbo land, further strengthening the bond among communities and celebrating the achievements of notable women who have contributed to society’s growth.
