As Rights Activist Urges Rev’d Father Ebube Muonso to Apologize to Governor Soludo

In a development that underscores the intersection of faith and governance in Anambra State, Comr. Osita Obi, a prominent human rights activist, has called on Rev’d Father Ebube Muonso of the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry Uke to retract recent criticisms of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Speaking to journalists in Awka on Tuesday, Comr. Obi expressed dismay at what he described as “unguarded utterances” by the cleric, emphasizing that leaders must maintain civility even in the face of concern over the state’s challenges.
Comr. Obi highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue, especially from someone of Rev’d Father Ebube Muonso’s stature, and urged him to apologize to Governor Soludo for publicly calling him a “reprobate,” which he described as an attack that crosses the bounds of decency. “As a man of God and someone I consider a son by virtue of age, he should lead by example. There are decent ways to address security challenges without resorting to personal attacks,” Obi stated.
Drawing from his personal experiences, the activist recounted his own ordeal with cultist violence years before Governor Soludo assumed office. “I was once a victim of insecurity in Anambra, and I understand the frustration. However, it is unfair to place the entire blame on the governor, especially when crime incidents have roots in longstanding issues like cultism and disputes over real estate transactions,” he noted.
Comr. Obi commended Governor Soludo’s efforts in addressing insecurity and highlighted the launch of the “Agụnechemba” security initiative as a significant achievement. He observed that modern security challenges require surveillance and intelligence gathering, and called for a collective approach involving citizens, the government, and security agencies.
Reacting to criticisms of the governor’s administration, particularly comments made by Hon. Nigeria Henry Mbachu during an Arise News segment on January 11, 2025, Comr. Obi defended the governor’s resource allocation strategy. He argued that security agencies should be funded strategically, focusing on initiatives that yield tangible results. “If I were the governor, I wouldn’t fund a security outfit that barely reports to me. Governance requires accountability and resource optimization,” he said.
In a bold move, Comr. Obi called on gubernatorial aspirants in Anambra to shelve their ambitions and instead rally behind Governor Soludo to sustain the state’s development trajectory. “The funds they intend to use for campaigns should be channeled into the state treasury for projects that will benefit Ndi Anambra. Soludo’s administration has brought unprecedented transformation, and he deserves collective support,” Obi asserted.
The activist urged Rev’d Father Ebube Muonso to utilize his platform to foster peace and unity rather than escalate tensions, emphasizing that faith leaders have a crucial role in promoting constructive engagement with the government.
