…Urges Anambra voters to prioritize sincere leadership

As Nigeria marked Democracy Day 2024 Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra’s upcoming November 8 election, joined citizens nationwide in honoring the country’s democratic journey. She used the moment to promote unity, critical reflection, and renewed dedication to national development and good governance.
Ekwunife paid tribute to the many Nigerians, both citizens and leaders, who have contributed to sustaining democracy over the last 25 years. She considered this year’s theme, ‘26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development,’ to be especially relevant in light of current national challenges, underscoring the critical link between democratic governance and long-term progress.
In her view, Democracy Day serves as a reminder of the nation’s resilience. Despite economic and social pressures, Nigeria’s democratic growth signals an enduring national spirit and the possibility of a stronger, more united future. The celebration, in her perspective, was not just about acknowledging hardships, but also about recognizing how far the nation has come and the potential that lies ahead.
From her standpoint as a public servant, Ekwunife saw encouraging signs in recent constitutional reviews and electoral reforms. These developments, she believed, reflect a commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusion, marking a steady evolution toward a system where the rights and voices of all citizens are respected.
She also expressed deep concern about the widespread hardships Nigerians continue to endure. Economic instability, social stress, and political uncertainty have affected many, yet she remained confident that these challenges could be overcome through sincere leadership and collective effort. In her view, moments like Democracy Day are opportunities to draw strength from shared experiences and reaffirm hope for the future.
Turning her focus to Anambra’s upcoming election, Ekwunife emphasized the power of the people to shape their future through the ballot. She strongly believed the APC was positioned to provide that caliber of leadership, grounded in practical solutions and a people-first approach.
In addition, she highlighted the broader national context, praising ongoing efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to stabilize the economy, invest in infrastructure, and promote citizen empowerment. She felt that Anambra, under APC leadership, would be well-placed to align with these national goals and benefit from stronger federal-state collaboration.
Ekwunife concluded her Democracy Day message by reinforcing the importance of unity, resilience, and faith in the democratic process.
