Dr. Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, has committed to addressing the persistent boundary disputes in Ayamelum Local Government Area by setting up a special committee within his first week in office. These conflicts, which have troubled the area for years, were highlighted as a priority during the official APC campaign flag-off event in Ayamelum.
His announcement was warmly received by the local audience, reflecting strong community support.
Speaking at the event, Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON (Iyom), who is the APC deputy governorship candidate, emphasized the need for a new chapter in Anambra’s political journey. She stated that the state required a leader with integrity and broad national experience, someone who has made significant contributions in other regions and is now prepared to focus on his roots.
Ekwunife described effective governance as one that directly improves lives and responds to the specific needs of the people. She expressed that this was the right moment for Dr. Ukachukwu to assume leadership and help reposition Anambra with integrity and purpose. She encouraged the electorate to give him a genuine opportunity to deliver real development, pointing out that the political tide sweeping through Nigeria could soon bring transformation to the state.
Dr. Ukachukwu commended the unity and organization demonstrated by the people of Ayamelum, which he saw as a clear signal of strong partnership. He praised the commitment of ward executives, campaign support groups, and other party members, and acknowledged their essential role in driving the campaign forward.
He described the ward-level structure as a vital component of their grassroots campaign strategy and pledged close collaboration between the campaign council and the legislative wards. He also assured that practical support would be provided to meet their needs.
Calling on the community to back the APC fully, Ukachukwu encouraged voters to be vigilant in protecting their votes. He warned against politicians who make hollow promises, assuring the audience that he would only commit to plans he could actually deliver. He added that his track record in both business and politics proves his consistency in honoring agreements.
Addressing infrastructure challenges, Ukachukwu promised to repair the poor road leading to the campaign venue, using quality materials to ensure it lasts. He also mentioned that some of his trusted advisors and aides were natives of Ayamelum, assuring residents that they would not be overlooked in the distribution of government benefits.
He further noted that the momentum for change comes from the people, not just political incumbency. Ukachukwu stressed the importance of aligning with the federal government to access available grants and development opportunities, noting that states that had embraced the national agenda were already seeing results.
According to him, both internally generated revenue and federal allocations, when properly managed, would be enough to drive meaningful development in Anambra. He also noted the potential of international donor support in boosting the state’s growth.
Mr. Nwuba Paul Onyebuchi, President-General of the Anaku community, expressed gratitude to the APC team for launching their campaign in Ayamelum and gave assurances of strong electoral support from the people. He introduced Chief Ikechukwu Nathan Nnebeife, a prominent son of the area, who called on residents to unite and vote en masse for Ukachukwu, stating that such a move would pave the way for real progress.
In his remarks, APC State Chairman Hon. Basil Ejidike noted that beginning the campaign in Ayamelum was a deliberate choice to highlight the LGA’s political importance. He offered prayers for successful planning and execution of the campaign.
Notable figures at the event included Chief Azuka Okwuosa, a key contender in the upcoming Anambra South senatorial bye-election, and Chief Nathan Nnebeife, among other dignitaries.
