Amid a wave of political intimidation and underhanded tactics targeted at the person of Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, prominent women leaders in Anambra State have risen in strong solidarity with the distinguished lawmaker, vowing to mobilize massive grassroots support for her joint ticket with the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, in the 2025 Anambra governorship election.
At a high-level stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday, women leaders from across the state reaffirmed their loyalty to Senator Ekwunife, whom they described as a “pillar of hope” for women and children. The Anambra State Women Leader of APC, Chief Mrs. Maria Ejielo, praised Ekwunife’s unwavering commitment to women empowerment, describing her as a rare breed in politics who has consistently prioritized the needs of women regardless of political seasons.
“From building and furnishing homes for indigent widows, to distributing essential household equipment like generators, grinding machines, and sewing machines, Senator Ekwunife has never turned her back on the women of Anambra State,”
She added that Senator Ekwunife’s sincerity and consistency in engaging women stand in stark contrast to the tokenism often seen in Nigerian politics. “What distinguishes her is not just her accessibility, but the tangible results she delivers. She is not a seasonal politician. We will stand by her, because she has always stood by us,” Ejielo affirmed.
Also speaking at the event, the former Director General of the Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce, Hon. Mrs. Ify Chinwuko, emphasized that the Senator’s record speaks for itself.
“Senator Ekwunife is the only one that remembers women, come rain or shine. She has sponsored countless women into political and leadership roles, provided scholarships for their children, facilitated job opportunities, and extended life-changing support to rural communities by attracting basic amenities like boreholes, school renovations, and rural electrification,” Chinwuko stated.
The women leaders jointly condemned attempts to silence or undermine a woman who has become a beacon of empowerment and inclusive governance. They described the ongoing threats allegedly orchestrated by political opponents as a desperate attempt to derail a movement that has already gained unstoppable momentum.
As the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife continues to draw massive support from women, youths, and community-based groups who see in her a leader who genuinely understands their struggles and aspirations.
With her influence and legacy firmly rooted in impactful service, it is clear that no amount of intimidation can erase the connection she has built with the grassroots. The 2025 election, they noted, will reflect the will of the people, especially the women who have vowed to stand by their own.
