In an unprecedented political development ahead of the November 8 Anambra governorship election, the entire structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Aguata Local Government Area has collapsed into the All Progressives Congress (APC), as top stakeholders, including 20 PDP Ward Chairmen, publicly declared their support for the APC governorship and deputy governorship candidates, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife.
The high-profile event held at Central School Ekwulobia featured powerful declarations, symbolic gifts, and bold political statements from leading figures in Aguata politics.
Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Godson Anyadike, opened with a note of gratitude to God and described Ukachukwu as “the first born-again Christian to steer the ship of Anambra State,” drawing applause from party faithful.
Prof. Hon. Nnamdi Umeh rallied support for APC, stating, “Aguata will prove that it can deliver victory,” and highlighted that the name Nicholas in Greek means “victory for the people.” His message was echoed by Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, who emphasized the determination of all 14 communities in Aguata to align with national politics for the benefit of their people.
Prof. Paul Orajiaka made a passionate appeal, lamenting the failure of the current administration to provide essential farming inputs, noting that economic trees were distributed in August instead of March. He insisted Aguata is “on the ballot” and must vote in their own Senator Uche Ekwunife.
In a major turning point, Hon. Sunday Nnodi, in consultation with Ichie Edward Chinedu Ezeabasili, announced that all 20 PDP Ward Chairmen in Aguata have dumped the party, citing the superior capacity of the APC candidates and calling for a negotiation to define their new political role in the APC family.
The state Chairman of APC who received the 20 PDP Ward Chairmen commended them for taking the bold step to align with the progressives, assuring them that their lives will be different when compared to their former situation in the Peoples Democratic Party in the past couple of years, once APC emerges victorious in November 8th.
The rally reached a climax when revered APC stalwart, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo, presented a brand new 18-seater bus and a huge cow to the APC candidates as a symbol of unwavering support.
Speaking passionately, Senator Uche Ekwunife declared governance as a sacred call to serve the people. She recalled her impactful interventions in education and infrastructure across Anambra South, which earned her the royal title Nnedioramma from Aguata traditional rulers. Ekwunife emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a clear preference in Prince Ukachukwu and urged the APC family to stand united behind him.
The first-class lawmaker congratulated the PDP Ward chairmen, emphasizing the capacity of ward leaders in any political undertaking. “This move is a major inroad for the APC, considering its anticipated impact on the forthcoming election”, she said.
She condemned the unlawful activities of Agunechemba Security, citing the recent abduction and extortion of an innocent businessman, Chibuike. Ekwunife praised Delta-born activist Harrison Gwamnishu for exposing the crime and vowed that such misconduct will not be tolerated under the incoming APC administration.
Ekwunife also cautioned Ndi Anambra against blindly believing viral video confessions, noting that some may have been obtained under duress.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of a huge cow and a brand new 18-seater bus to the APC candidates by revered party stalwart, business leader, and Chairman of the Anambra State APC Reconciliation Committee, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo.
In his remarks, Onunkwo declared total victory for the APC in Aguata, emphasizing that Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife represent a brand of visionary leadership poised to correct the failures of the APGA administration.
The event featured presentations and goodwill messages from prominent Aguata figures, including former speakers Ikem Uzoezie and Rita Mmaduagwu, Prof. Orajiaka, Cater Dike Nnamdi Umeh, Chief Dozie Ikedife Jr., Hon. Njideka Oraedum, Hon. Ify Chinwuko, Princess Esom Nwafor-Orizu, Prince Bounty Onuigbo, and many others.
