The race for the Anambra South Senatorial seat has taken a new turn as respected legal luminary and philanthropist, Barr. Donald Chidi Amamgbo (Okosisii Ihiala), has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following his resignation from the Labour Party.
In a statement released to the public, Amamgbo said his decision to leave the Labour Party was driven by deep personal reflection and wide consultations, citing the party’s “irreconcilable structural failures, internal divisions, and a leadership vacuum” which, according to him, had crippled its ability to offer meaningful direction and support.
“The Labour Party, which once held promise, has become deeply enmeshed in legal battles and a breakdown of trust, making it impossible to pursue the urgent task of rebuilding our district,” he stated.
Now contesting under the ADC, Amamgbo is positioning himself as a frontrunner in the upcoming senatorial by-election, leveraging his proven legacy of service and empowerment across the zone.
Amamgbo’s popularity stems from years of direct grassroots development initiatives, which many in Anambra South credit for changing lives and uplifting communities. His achievements include:
Road construction and rehabilitation projects in underserved rural areas, enhancing transportation and local commerce.

“This movement is not about party labels. It is about you; the traders in Nnewi, the farmers in Orumba, the artisans in Ihiala, the entrepreneurs in Ekwusigo, the students in Uli, the elders in Osumenyi, the young mothers in Oko,” he noted.
He further urged all his supporters, community stakeholders, youth mobilizers, and women leaders to join him in this new political chapter.
