The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign train received a rousing welcome in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, as part of the party’s ongoing statewide “Thank You Tour” ahead of the November 8 Anambra gubernatorial election.
Hon. Chidi Ojika, APC Chairman of Nnewi South LGA, set the tone for the occasion by presenting the traditional kolanut in honour of the APC Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, MFR (Ikukuoma Ndigbo) and Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON.
The traditional ruler of Ukpor, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Sir Felix Onyimmadu JP, offered prayers with the kolanut, blessed the APC candidates and commended the current administration for its work in Aguata. He expressed optimism that Ukachukwu and Ekwunife would bring meaningful development to Nnewi South and other communities across Anambra if elected.
“The decision to zone the governorship to Anambra South is strategic and will be a blessing to the entire state,” the monarch noted.
Echoing similar sentiments, a prominent stakeholder, Chief Obataobie, stated, “I believe in turn-by-turn; God has supported our turn to produce the next governor.”
In her address, Senator Ekwunife saluted the traditional rulers, women, and youth, expressing gratitude for their show of solidarity.
“Ndi Nnewi South, your massive turnout shows that you are ready for the election. Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu is the man Anambra needs; God-fearing, business-savvy, and deeply committed to peace and development. You all are the ones contesting this election, so you have no option than to elect yourselves to drive your ideas, actualize your dreams, end insecurity and move our state forward,” she declared.
The event featured several high-profile donations and endorsements. Hon. Izuu Okeke, APC Vice Chairman for Anambra South, and his people presented three rams and thousands of branded T-shirts, while expressing gratitude for the party’s nomination of its senatorial candidate from Nnewi South. He reaffirmed the zone’s full support for the Ikukuoma/Iyom gubernatorial project.
Prominent community figures, Chief and Mrs. Mmaduagwu, also donated a cow and rams, while notable support groups including SOFIG, Anambra Women in Politics, and the Integrity Group made generous presentations. The Integrity Group in particular donated a Sienna sedan vehicle, a motorcycle, and other valuable campaign materials.
The climax of the event was the unanimous endorsement of Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu by the traditional institution, elders, youth, and stakeholders of Ukpor community, who declared him their sole candidate for the upcoming polls.
Visibly elated, Ukachukwu thanked the people of Ukpor and the entire Nnewi South for their unwavering support and solidarity.
“I am deeply humbled by this outpouring of love from my people. I will not let you down. Our administration will prioritize security, economic growth, and infrastructural development, ensuring that Anambra ranks among the top-performing states in Nigeria,” he promised.
The APC “Thank You Tour,” which began in Ayamelum LGA, has now successfully reached all corners of the state, building momentum ahead of what is expected to be a keenly contested election.
