Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has ignited political debate following his recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja; a move many interpret as tacit support for the APC governorship ticket of Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife ahead of the November 8, 2025 election.
Photographs released by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime on Tuesday, showed Governor Soludo wearing a BAT-insignia cap while exchanging a handshake with President Tinubu.
In remarks credited to him earlier, Soludo has consistently expressed appreciation for the president’s “giant strides” in steering the nation toward positive growth, adding that he has “no regrets” supporting Tinubu’s second-term bid; not only due to their long-standing friendship but also because, in his view, the president is “doing well.”
Political analysts, however, see the visit as a calculated manoeuvre to secure Tinubu’s political blessing, a sign of growing anxiety over APGA’s chances of holding onto power. Critics have highlighted the Soludo administration’s struggles with internal security and its perceived underperformance despite receiving substantial federal allocations and internally generated revenue.
Meanwhile, APC candidates Ukachukwu and Ekwunife have intensified grassroots mobilisation and stakeholder consultations, with APGA members defecting to the ruling coalition in increasing numbers.
The APC candidates have already succeeded in engraving their images in the people’s hearts long before the gubernatorial election, with Ukachukwu paying all required fees for 200 students of Iwene Tansi University many years ago. This intervention expedited the accreditation process of the institution which stands tall today as one of the most outstanding private institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.
