….As Ogidi community cries out for help, victims hail APC candidate’s compassion and swift intervention

The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the fast-approaching November 8, 2025 Anambra election, Prince Nicholas Chukwujekwu Ukachukwu (Ikukuoma), on Tuesday suspended his campaign activities to visit victims of the devastating flood that ravaged Ire-Ndiagu, Ogidi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The flood, which followed two days of torrential rainfall on October 6 and 7, submerged several homes, farmlands, and roads, displacing over 30 families and destroying property worth hundreds of millions of naira.
Arriving at the disaster scene in the company of top APC officials, Ukachukwu inspected the submerged homes, collapsed fences, and affected neighbourhoods along the Ogidi–Onitsha Highway, where commuters were stranded as the road became nearly impassable.
Moved by the plight of the residents, the APC candidate announced a ₦3 million donation to support victims of the disaster, assuring them of immediate relief and a long-term solution once elected governor.
“What we are witnessing in Ogidi is a clear failure of government,” Ukachukwu declared. “One of the primary duties of any government is to secure lives and property. Once a government fails in that regard, it has failed completely. After over twenty years of APGA leadership in Anambra, we are still faced with the same man-made flooding disasters. It’s time for change.”
He emphasized that an APC-led administration under his leadership would prioritize drainage infrastructure, flood management, and social welfare to prevent further human and material losses.
Residents and community leaders who gathered at the scene hailed Ukachukwu’s prompt visit, describing it as the first time in years that a major political leader had personally shown concern over their plight.
Mr. Izuchukwu Obidi, a resident, lamented the government’s silence, saying, “Four days after the disaster, we have not seen or heard from Governor Soludo or any of his aides. Prince Ukachukwu is the only candidate who has visited us, and that means a lot.”
Another resident, Mrs. Favour Metu, described the experience as “a nightmare,” adding, “The flood has made life unbearable. What we need now is a leader who feels our pain and takes action. Ukachukwu has shown that he’s different.”
Similarly, Mr. Uche Okoye, one of the displaced residents, said, “I lost my house and documents to the flood. The fact that Ukachukwu came here in person to sympathize with us shows his humanity. We’ll support him in the coming election.”
Community leaders in Ire-Ndiagu pledged their total support for Ukachukwu and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, assuring that they would mobilize votes across the Idemili axis in appreciation of the APC candidate’s compassion and practical response.
Ukachukwu was accompanied on the visit by the Anambra State APC Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike (Nkwelle Nnabuenyi); the State Woman Leader, Mrs. Maria Ejielo; Chief Augustine Muomaife, APC Anambra Central Zonal Chairman; Barr. Kingsley Ezekwelu, Chief of Staff to the candidate; and Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu, APC Director of Administration, among others.
As the community continues to recover, residents say they will never forget the day Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu stood with them, not with empty promises, but with empathy, presence, and action.
