The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, has congratulated the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Barrister Peter Mbah, over his historic defection to the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Governor Mbah’s defection, which included his entire cabinet, members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, National Assembly members from the state, local government leaders, and other key political stakeholders, has been widely described as a landmark political development capable of reshaping the future of the South-East region.

In her remarks, Senator Ekwunife commended Governor Mbah for his courage, foresight, and commitment to the collective progress of the South-East, noting that his move signifies a decisive step towards aligning the region with the federal government for accelerated development and inclusive governance.

According to her, the emergence of APC-led administrations in Imo, Ebonyi and Enugu, with Anambra poised to join after the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election, heralds a new chapter of political synergy and regional transformation.

“Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the APC is not just a political milestone; it is a strategic move that reflects the growing realization among South-East leaders that unity and alignment with the center are key to our region’s advancement,” Ekwunife stated.

“With visionary APC governors steering the affairs of the South-East, we are positioned to unlock unprecedented opportunities in infrastructure, human capital development, and economic growth. The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will find deeper expression in our region through this synergy.”

Ekwunife, who is running alongside the APC Governorship Candidate in Anambra State, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, MFR (Ikukuoma), expressed confidence that Anambra will soon join the league of progressive states. She emphasized that the APC reform agenda for Anambra will reposition the state as a hub of innovation, commerce, and good governance.

“Anambra cannot remain isolated while the rest of the South-East is moving forward under the same progressive umbrella. Our people deserve the dividends of good governance, and that is what the APC represents. Under Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu’s leadership, we will build a prosperous and secure Anambra that aligns with the vision of our sister states,” she added.

“This is the moment for the South-East region to align strategically with the nation’s central decision-making structure; a move that will pave the way for the zone to vie effectively for the presidency or vice-presidential slot in the near future.”

Ekwunife specifically emphasized that failing to identify with the APC at this critical time would not serve the region’s political interests moving forward. She stressed that no region can attain key national positions such as President, Vice President, Senate President, or Speaker of the House of Representatives while remaining in a minority party.

To secure a place in Nigeria’s future leadership, she urged the South-East to wholeheartedly embrace the political ideology and Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration, she noted, has continued to demonstrate commitment to national growth and inclusiveness.

Senator Ekwunife concluded by urging Ndi Anambra and the entire South-East to embrace the new wave of political unity sweeping across the region, noting that with five APC governors working in harmony, the South-East is set for a new era of peace, development, and political relevance in the Nigerian federation.
