The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its readiness to take over Anambra State in the forthcoming 2025 governorship election, as the party’s campaign train stormed the commercial city of Onitsha to a rousing reception.
During the visit, the Great Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi), offered royal prayers and blessings to the APC governorship and deputy governorship candidates, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu (Ikukuoma) and Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife (Iyom).
The revered monarch, in his royal admonition, prayed for peace, unity, and purposeful leadership in Anambra State, urging the candidates to prioritize the welfare of the people if elected. He also wished them success as they carry the message of renewed hope and development across the state.
Speaking at the APC Mega Rally held at the All Saints Cathedral Field, Onitsha, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, declared that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has come to the end of its reign in Anambra, assuring party faithful that the APC will emerge victorious.
“In just eight days or 196 hours, APGA will be uprooted and cease to reign in Anambra State,” Prof. Yilwatda boldly stated, drawing loud cheers from the massive crowd.
The declaration was further reinforced by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the rally. Senator Akpabio expressed confidence that with the unity and calibre of leaders in the APC, victory for Ukachukwu and Ekwunife is assured.
Speaking further, Senator Godswill Akpabio stated, “An adapted son is not the same as a biological son”. This is a strong statement and timely clarification of the unfounded speculations that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu led APC might adopt the candidate of any other political party over that of APC, thereby resting the case in simple proclamation of Prince Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu MFR and Senator Uche Ekwunife CON as the party’s sole candidates.
Also in attendance were Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, the APC Anambra State Chairman, Hon. Basil Ejidike, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu, Hon. Bernard Udemezue (Ayamelum Constituency), and the APC South East Zonal Chairman, among other notable leaders.
The rally also witnessed a massive defection of members from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Labour Party (LP) to the APC, signaling a major political realignment in Anambra ahead of the 2025 polls.
The event was described as a turning point for the APC campaign, as thousands of enthusiastic supporters thronged the venue, reaffirming the party’s growing influence and determination to reclaim Anambra State.
