…Urges urgent rescue of Kebbi schoolgirls

As Nigeria marked World Children’s Day 2025, Senator Uche Ekwunife urged government at all levels to strengthen protections for children, stressing that “the future of every nation depends on how its children are raised.”
The distinguished lawmaker made this known in an official statement from her media office on Thursday, emphasizing that prioritizing children’s rights and welfare in every human enclave remains a non-negotiable responsibility.
This year’s theme, “My Day, My Rights, And For Every Child, Every Right,” she noted, is a reminder that children deserve safety, dignity, education, love and equal opportunity.
“Every child is a seed of hope,” she said.
“When we nurture them with care and protection, we secure the nation’s tomorrow. No responsible society looks away when its children cry.”
Ekwunife, known for her advocacy for women and children, said leadership must reflect empathy and responsibility.
“A mother does not abandon a child in distress, and neither should a nation,” she stated.
The senator also called on the federal government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining 24 schoolgirls abducted on Monday, 17th November 2025, from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.
“These girls must be found and brought home safely,” she stressed. “And the perpetrators must be apprehended and made to face justice.”
Ekwunife urged Nigerians to use the day not just for celebration but for sober reflection and renewed action.
“If we secure the rights of our children today, they will secure the future of our nation tomorrow.”
