Anambra Police Smash Suspected Secessionist Cell, Recover Firearms in Ihiala

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a proscribed secessionist group following an intelligence-led operation in the early hours of 20 November 2025

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, apprehended the suspect, Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, 25, in Ihiala, recovering two pump-action rifles and 29 live cartridges.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspect confessed during interrogation that he is an active member of an armed group and operates from a criminal camp situated in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc mnips PhD, commended the operatives for their swift action and ordered an immediate escalation of security surveillance, intelligence gathering, and targeted raid operations across the state. 

He disclosed that the Command is closing in on other fleeing members of the syndicate and is determined to completely dismantle the criminal network.

CP Orutugu urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, actionable information that can support ongoing security operations aimed at maintaining peace and stability in Anambra State.
