Pigba Market Blaze: Matawalle Steps In With N20m Donation, Assures More Federal Assistance

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, this Saturday evening visited the Pigba District Market in Apo, Abuja, where he met with 324 traders mostly Northerners who lost their houses, shops and goods to a devastating fire three days ago.

During the visit, Matawalle personally donated N20 million to the affected victims, promising that he would also brief President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the “ugly and painful” incident to ensure possible additional federal support.

The minister arrived at the market at about 6:05 p.m, receiving a thunderous ovation from traders who trooped out en masse to welcome him. His presence brought notable relief to the victims, many of whom have been struggling to recover from the losses.

The fire, which gutted large sections of the market earlier in the week, destroyed goods worth millions of naira, leaving hundreds displaced and without livelihood.
