Citypost News Desk
Former Senatorial aspirant, business leader and legal practitioner, Barr. Donald Amamgbo, has condemned in strong terms the deadly attack at Afor Market Junction, Nawfia Community, describing it as a senseless assault on humanity and a grievous violation of the sanctity of life.
Barr. Amamgbo, while responding to a press release issued by the President General of Nawfia Progressive Union, Chief Daniel Okoye, on Sunday said he received the news with profound shock and deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and injuries sustained by several others. He described the attack as heartbreaking, barbaric, and unacceptable under any circumstance.
Barr. Amamgbo unequivocally condemned the act and all forms of criminality aimed at spreading fear, grief, and insecurity among the people, insisting that no society can progress while living under the shadow of violence.
He called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible, stressing that the perpetrators must be made to face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent.
While acknowledging that grievances may arise in any society, Amamgbo emphasized that even where individuals or groups feel sidelined, maligned, or cheated, there are lawful, legitimate, and constructive channels for resolving such disputes. He noted that resorting to violence, particularly the reckless taking of innocent lives in outrageous numbers can never be justified, regardless of the grievance involved.
The legal practitioner said the incident once again highlights the urgent need to intensify security measures across Anambra State, especially around public spaces such as markets, roads, and community junctions.
He therefore called on the Anambra State Government and relevant security agencies to live up to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property through strengthened intelligence gathering, coordinated security operations, and increased visible security presence.
Barr. Amamgbo also expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Nawfia Community, and the government and people of Anambra State over what he described as a devastating loss. He prayed for divine strength for the affected families and speedy recovery for those injured.
He further urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while cooperating fully with security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations, stressing that collective resolve is required to defeat violence and restore lasting peace.
Barr. Amamgbo concluded by praying for the repose of the souls of the departed and expressed hope for the return of lasting peace to Nawfia and Anambra State.
