The ancient town of Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State came alive on Friday, December 26, 2025, as His Royal Majesty, Eze Ugonwanne Dr. Sir M.C. Ngene (JP), Ezeike IV of Nibo, led the community in celebrating the 2025 Ezeike Day, a landmark event dedicated to heritage, unity, and collective progress.
Speaking at the colourful ceremony held at the Nibo Civic Centre, the traditional ruler expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the gift of life and the privilege of witnessing what he described as a historic celebration for Ndi Nibo at home and in the diaspora. He noted that the event transcended the celebration of his reign, describing it as a celebration of Nibo’s history, values, and shared destiny as one people drawn from Ezeawulu, Ifite, and Ezeoye villages.
A major highlight of the event was the official unveiling of the Nibo Community Compendium, a comprehensive 594-page publication documenting the history, culture, leadership, and achievements of the Nibo people. The vision and summary of the compendium were presented by the President General of Nibo Union, Prof. Tony Nwokoye, PhD, who described the work as a historic documentation that took the union over one year to compile.
At the civic centre, Ezeike Nibo also commissioned the images of illustrious sons and daughters of Nibo enlisted in the Nibo Hall of Fame, Nibo Legends, Nibo Professional Pioneers, as well as past community leaders, Presidents, and Presidents General. Selected families were honoured for their contributions to the growth of the community.
The event also witnessed the installation of new members of the Ezeike-in-Council and the conferment of chieftaincy titles on deserving Nibo indigenes and notable individuals from outside the community, in recognition of their service and impact on society.
In his remarks, the Traditional Prime Minister of Nibo, Ozo Robinson Obi Ezeora (Osote Eze Nibo), expressed delight over the massive turnout, noting that the cultural interactions and recognitions would further unite the people and strengthen communal bonds. He emphasized that honouring deserving individuals with chieftaincy titles promotes excellence and community pride.
Addressing journalists after the event, Prof. Nwokoye disclosed that the unveiling of the compendium and exhibition of photographs of distinguished Nibo indigenes inside the civic centre was unprecedented in the history of the union.
While commending the Anambra State Government for its infrastructural efforts, the PG raised concerns over poor road conditions in parts of Nibo, especially during the rainy season.
He identified critical roads requiring urgent government attention, including the Ezeawulu Road leading to City Landmark Hotel and the Amawbia–Ekwulobia–Uga Road, where a significant number of Nibo indigenes and non-indigenes reside. According to him, these concerns have been formally communicated to the governor and relevant agencies.
The President General concluded by calling on prominent sons and daughters, stakeholders, and residents of Nibo to continue to cooperate in promoting good values, sustainable development, and the preservation of the community’s rich cultural heritage.
