The Anambra State Government has congratulated the people of Amanuke Community in Awka North Local Government Area on the successful and peaceful conduct of their town union election held on January 31, 2026.
The commendation was conveyed by the Commissioner for Local Government, Community Affairs and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, in an official letter of recognition issued to the newly elected Amanuke Development Union (ADU) leadership led by Mr. Simon-Ikechukwu Orakwe as President General.
According to the commissioner, the election, which took place at the Union Primary School Field, Amanuke, was conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner, in line with extant laws guiding town union elections in the state.
Orakwe emerged victorious after contesting against Mr. Emeka Odogwu, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council.
In the letter, Nwabunwanne formally affirmed the recognition of the elected officers, stating:
“I hereby certify that the underlisted elected officers are the bonafide executive members of the Amanuke Development Union, duly recognised by the Anambra State Government with effect from January 31, 2026.”
The recognised executive members include Simon-Ikechukwu Orakwe as President General; Godwin Nwandibe, Deputy President General; Okechukwu Agbata, Secretary General; and Christopher Nwoye, Assistant Secretary General.
Other members of the executive are Francis Alagbuna, Treasurer; Uchechukwu Nnamezie, Financial Secretary; Obinna Nwankwo, Social Welfare Officer; Hyacinth Okafor, Public Relations Officer; Charles Nnanwube, Provost I; and Chigozie Ekulide, Provost II.
The commissioner further disclosed that the tenure of the newly inaugurated executive committee is three years, commencing from January 31, 2026, to January 31, 2029.
He concluded by urging the new leadership to work in unity and in the overall interest of Amanuke community, while formally extending the state government’s congratulations to the Orakwe-led administration.
“Accept my congratulations,” the commissioner stated.
