The Most Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian women on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, calling on them to live with courage, pursue their purpose relentlessly, and build lives that harmonise professional success with strong family foundations.
In her goodwill message marking the global celebration themed “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” Senator Ekwunife described the day as more than a ceremonial observance but a moment of reflection, renewal, and recommitment to the dignity, strength, and limitless potential of women everywhere.
She acknowledged the meaningful progress made in advancing women’s rights across the world, yet noted that many women still face deeply rooted barriers that restrict opportunity and silence potential. From unequal access to employment and finance, to threats to personal safety, limited property rights, and underrepresentation in leadership, she stressed that the journey toward true equality remains unfinished.
According to her, these obstacles must not define women’s futures. Rather, they should ignite a deeper resolve to rise above limitations, challenge unfair systems, and boldly occupy spaces where decisions are made and destinies are shaped.
Senator Ekwunife emphasized that women are not merely participants in national development but central drivers of progress and transformation. Their influence across governance, enterprise, education, innovation, and community leadership continues to shape societies and secure brighter futures for generations yet unborn.
She therefore urged women to pursue what they believe in with conviction and resilience, reminding them that every great achievement begins with the courage to try. She encouraged women not to be discouraged by setbacks, societal expectations, or temporary failures, but to see challenges as preparation for greater victories.
“No dream is too ambitious, no voice too small, and no aspiration beyond reach,” she affirmed, urging women to step forward confidently, break barriers, and embrace opportunities that align with their purpose.
While encouraging professional excellence and economic independence, Senator Ekwunife also underscored the enduring importance of family and values. She noted that the strength of every nation is rooted in the stability of the home, where women serve as nurturers, mentors, moral anchors, and shapers of future leaders.
She stressed that career success and family life are not competing priorities, but complementary callings that, when balanced with wisdom, create stronger homes, healthier societies, and more prosperous nations.
The distinguished lawmaker further called on governments, institutions, and global stakeholders to move beyond rhetoric by dismantling discriminatory laws, harmful cultural practices, and structural inequalities that hinder women’s full participation in national development.
Celebrating the resilience, brilliance, and leadership of women across the world, Senator Ekwunife also offered prayers for peace amid rising global tensions and conflicts.
