The South-East zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally dissolved its executive committees across the five states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo, ushering in a new leadership structure aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was announced on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, during the party’s Zonal Congress held at the Presidential Hotel, Enugu. The congress was conducted under the leadership of the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma. The event attracted top party leaders, stakeholders, and delegates from across the region.
In his welcome address, the host governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, described the APC as not only the largest political party in Nigeria but also “a beautiful bride” attracting widespread interest across the political landscape.
He expressed confidence in the processes and strategies adopted for the congress, assuring delegates of a credible and seamless exercise.
The motion for the formal dissolution of the outgoing executives, whose tenures had elapsed, and the adoption of new officers was moved by Francis Nwifuru and seconded by Patrick Ndubueze.
Speaking on the transition, Governor Nwifuru underscored the significance of the consensus approach adopted by the party, noting that it ensured a smooth, rancour-free leadership change and reinforced unity within the South-East APC.
The newly constituted zonal leadership is headed by the National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu. Other members include Mr. Innocent Itakpa Azuoba (Secretary), Rex Mayor Ogbonna (Legal Adviser), and Henry Onwughalaonye (Publicity Secretary). Additional positions were filled by Chima Kenneth Ogbonnaya, Nwachukwu, Oby Aji (Zonal Woman Leader), and Arinze Dozie Ikedife (Zonal Organising Secretary).
The state chairmen produced through the 2026 congress include Hon. Chijioke Chukwu (Abia), Senator Emma Anosike (Anambra), Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha (Ebonyi), Dr. Martin Chukwunweike (Enugu), and Chief Austin Onyedebelu (Imo).
The congress also witnessed the presence of key party figures, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; former Anambra State Governor, Chris Ngige; Director General of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife; and the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu, among other notable stakeholders.
The successful conduct of the congress signals a renewed drive by the APC to reposition itself in the South-East geopolitical zone as preparations intensify for the next electoral cycle.
