The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has issued a public advisory urging all prepaid meter customers to ensure their meters are upgraded before 24th November 2024. According to a statement released by Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh on Sunday 27th October, this deadline comes in response to the Token Identifier (TID) rollover, a global update requirement that affects all Standard Transfer Specification (STS) compliant prepaid meters.
In an ongoing effort to keep customers informed, EEDC has conducted numerous engagements and awareness campaigns on this issue, emphasizing that all STS prepaid meters must be upgraded to continue accepting credit tokens. Any meters that remain unupgraded after 24th November will no longer accept new tokens; however, they will continue to function until the existing energy credit is exhausted.
The TID rollover upgrade follows EEDC’s transition to the “SuperEdge” vending system on 24th February 2024, a preparatory step aimed at ensuring a seamless upgrade process. Customers who have not recharged their meters since February 2024 will receive Key Change Tokens (KCTs) upon their first recharge. These KCTs, consisting of three sets of 20-digit tokens, are essential for upgrading their meters.
The upgrade process involves inputting each 20-digit token sequentially into the meter, pressing “enter” after each entry. EEDC has assured customers that this upgrade is free of charge.
Customers with previously purchased but unused tokens should load them before initiating the KCT upgrade, as unredeemed tokens will no longer be valid post-upgrade and are non-refundable.
For recharging, customers may use “EnergyPay” on the EEDC website at www.enugudisco.com by selecting the “Make Payment” option, or they can recharge through the EEDC Connect App.
