The United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide (UNIEC) has refuted a publication falsely attributed to its name and His Lordship, Justice Alpha Ikpeama. The misleading publication, currently circulating online, alleges Justice Ikpeama’s membership and endorsement of a purported faction within Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
In a categorical denial, Justice Ikpeama clarified that he neither signed nor discussed the said statement. He reaffirmed his lack of affiliation with any faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to promoting unity, peace, and the collective progress of Ndigbo. His Lordship stressed the importance of harmonious coexistence among Ndigbo leaders and stakeholders.
UNIEC reiterates the following:
- There is only one recognized Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
- The notion of factions within Ohanaeze Ndigbo is baseless and does not reflect reality.
- Both UNIEC and Justice Alpha Ikpeama unequivocally support the creation of Anioma State as part of advancing Igbo interests.
- Neither Justice Ikpeama nor UNIEC endorses any alleged “faction” within Ohanaeze.
Justice Ikpeama urges the public to disregard the false publication and rely solely on verified communications from him or his office. This clarification seeks to protect the integrity of both UNIEC and His Lordship while reiterating their unified stance in fostering peace and progress for the Igbo nation.
