UNIEC Worldwide urges President Tinubu to tackle insecurity in the southeast

Postpones Its Legacy Award to April 23rd, 2025

The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide is an independent, non-partisan, and non-sectarian body of elders from the 13 contiguous States of major and minor Igbo indigeneity in Nigeria, as well as in the diaspora, dedicated to the pursuit of Igbo and other Nigerian interests in cooperation with any law-abiding compatriots. Because, we believe in mutuality, constitutionalism and the rule of law.

In a statement jointly signed by His Lordship, Justice Alpha Ikpeama and Prof. Obasi Igwe, UNIEC Worldwide calls for dialogues from the federal government to the South-East governors, in view of addressing the rising spate of insecurity in the southeast region. The group noted that such an act will not only be a monumental achievement for Mr President and the governors, but will also foster healing, unity, and peace across the Southeast and the nation at large.

UNIEC further revealed its plans of evaluating and rewarding the efforts of governors from the region who show commitment to stemming the rising wave of insecurity across the region.

The association had earlier rescheduled it’s Legacy Awards slated for December 2024, to April 23rd, 2025, to ensure adequate arrangements for its hitch-free conduct as anticipated by all stakeholders.

Finally, UNIEC Worldwide applauds President Tinubu for his proactive approach to fostering peace and development across Nigeria. We believe that restoring safety of lives and property in the southeast will underscore the President’s commitment to national reconciliation and strengthen his legacy as a unifier and statesman.

The group urged all stakeholders to work together towards restoring hope, unity, and joy to the Southeast and to Nigeria as a whole.
