The ACCORD Party; number one on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ballot paper, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, demonstrated why it holds that prime position, proving that being first isn’t merely about alphabetical order but about leadership and vision.

In line with INEC’s timetable and guidelines for the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, the ACCORD Party conducted its primary election in Awka, the state capital. At the end of the exercise, the party elected a vibrant young philanthropist and business executive, Charles Chidi Onyeze, as its flag bearer.

Onyeze emerged victorious with 93 out of the 105 votes cast by delegates drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state. He was declared winner by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Elder Ibe Kenechukwu, who, along with other committee members, was delegated by the party’s national leadership to oversee the exercise.

Speaking after the election, the Anambra State Chairman of the ACCORD Party, Chief Batho Igwedibia, described the primary as peaceful, transparent, and democratic. He said it set a new benchmark for credible party primaries in Anambra and across Nigeria.

“As everyone here witnessed, it was a peaceful process because we are a law-abiding party, and all participants conducted themselves responsibly. Our party is number one on the ballot, and we shall remain number one at all times,” he stated.

Also speaking, Elder Ibe Kenechukwu emphasized that the primary followed both the party’s constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act. He confirmed that INEC officials were present to monitor the process.

In his acceptance speech, Charles Chidi Onyeze, founder of the Onyeze Humanitarian Foundation, began by singing a song of gratitude to God, acknowledging the moment as a step closer to fulfilling his dream of transforming Anambra State.

“Today marks a significant milestone in my quest to return Anambra State to the path of positive growth. Although I’ve been impacting lives through the Onyeze Humanitarian Foundation, what we can achieve collectively with the mandate of Ndi Anambra and the power of state authority will be truly remarkable.

“Anambra used to be a reference point for productivity and security, but not anymore. However, the good news is that, with the people’s mandate, the possibilities are limitless. We must reclaim our status as a model state, set new records and break barriers. A better Anambra is a goal we must not take for granted,” Onyeze declared.
