In continuation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) grassroots engagement across Anambra State, the party’s governorship candidate Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu has pledged to build a functional power plant to harness the abundant natural gas deposits in the state for reliable electricity generation. He made this declaration during a campaign rally held at Omogho, Orumba North Local Government Area.

Addressing party faithful, supporters, and community leaders, Ukachukwu emphasized that Anambra’s God-given natural gas resources must be put to productive use through the establishment of a power plant that will boost electricity supply, improve livelihoods, and stimulate economic growth.

“We will work for you. We will secure your homes and farmlands. We will give you grants to improve your farming activities. And above all, we will build a functional power plant to ensure optimal utilization of our rich gas deposit,” Ukachukwu assured.

The rally, which turned into a massive show of unity and endorsement, saw prominent APC leaders and support groups declaring total allegiance to the APC ticket of Ukachukwu and his running mate, the Most Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON.

Chief Tagbo SAN, popularly known as Ike na Ndi Ike, formally welcomed the APC candidates and stakeholders to Orumba North, affirming that the entire LGA is now united behind the APC cause irrespective of political party lines. “APGA and Governor Soludo have failed us, so Orumba North will now face the election as one body. We are fully mobilized and we will work for Ikukuoma,” he stated.

Mazi Chukwudi Kanu, addressing the gathering, reminded members that “politics is local,” urging APC faithful to commit to delivering their wards. He declared Orumba as the secretariat of APC in Anambra and a strategic hub in the party’s success, adding that they are not just working for Ukachukwu and Ekwunife, but they are the ones contesting with the APC ticket.

Hon. Sopulu Ezeonwuka, who led the APC Solidarity group, affirmed the growing popularity of the Ukachukwu-Ekwunife joint ticket. “Ikukuoma has been winning in Nnewi South, Orumba North, Orumba South, and other areas. With valid votes cast at the ballot, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife will be declared winners,” he said.

APC State Chairman, Hon. Basil Ejidike, praised the unity and enthusiasm of Orumba North APC members, stating that their massive support during the party primaries is now being solidified into a winning strategy. “This is exactly what Ukachukwu came here to affirm — the people’s mandate,” he said.

In her remarks, APC deputy governorship candidate Senator Uche Ekwunife delivered a passionate call for leadership change in Orumba North and across Anambra. “Wrong suffering is self-inflicted. Long suffering, like Job’s, is biblical. But Orumba North must reject both. The time for change is now,” she declared.

Ekwunife stressed the importance of aligning Anambra State with the federal government for increased development opportunities. “Delta and Akwa Ibom States joined the APC and are now reaping massive benefits. Anambra must connect to the center and join the league of progressive states,” she added.

The event featured presentations by several support groups and saw the attendance of high-profile dignitaries including APC senatorial aspirant Chief Obinna Uzoh, Zonal Chairmen Hon. Dozie Ikedife Jnr. and Chief Augustine Azubike, Hon. Ify Chinwuko (former DG, Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce), Chief Fab Ozigbo, Chief Bounty Onuigbo, and other key stakeholders.

With increasing grassroots mobilization and bold policy declarations, the APC campaign continues to gain traction ahead of the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.
