In a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s air defense capabilities and improve operational efficiency, the House of Representatives Committee on Air Force has commenced a strategic oversight visit to key Nigerian Air Force installations across the country.
This development was disclosed by Macpee Media Team on Tuesday, in the course of following the committee’s efforts to elevate Nigeria’s air defense architecture. According to the report, the House Committee, led by its Deputy Chairman, Hon. Rufus Adenitis Ojuawo (AVM Rtd), began the nationwide tour with an inspection of the Kainji Air Force Base in Niger State.
The team was received by the Base Commander, Air Commodore Mansur Yusuf, who conducted the legislators around the facility, highlighting its operational functions, challenges, and developmental needs.
Among the committee members was Hon. Peter Aniekwe Udogalanya, who played a prominent role in the evaluation exercise. Hon. Aniekwe provided critical insights during the inspection, contributing to the committee’s broader understanding of the base’s logistics, infrastructure, personnel welfare, and operational readiness.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Aniekwe emphasized the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s aviation and air defense infrastructure. “To improve the standard of Nigeria’s aviation industry, there must be a deliberate investment in cutting-edge technology, capacity-building for personnel, and a clear maintenance culture across all installations,” he said. “We must also foster stronger collaboration between the military and civilian aviation sectors to ensure a unified approach to airspace security and development.”
The visit is part of the National Assembly’s oversight mandate aimed at promoting accountability, enhancing national security, and ensuring optimal performance of the Nigerian Air Force.
In the coming days, the committee is scheduled to inspect additional Air Force facilities in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Enugu. These inspections will focus on ongoing projects, operational challenges, and the overall readiness of the Air Force in tackling Nigeria’s evolving security threats.
