The Anambra State APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Arise News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery incident at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, on September 29, 2025.
Ekwunife, in her condolence message, described Somtochukwu, popularly known as Sommie, as a “brilliant young journalist and lawyer whose vibrancy, professionalism, and passion for truth touched millions of Nigerians.”
She noted that at just 29, her life and career embodied promise, dedication, and excellence. Senator Ekwunife commiserated with the bereaved family, the management and staff of Arise News, as well as Sommie’s friends and colleagues, stressing that the nation had lost a rare gem.
While condemning the act, Ekwunife called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify investigations, apprehend, and prosecute the perpetrators.
“This heinous crime must not go unpunished. Beyond words of comfort, our nation must demonstrate that the lives of its citizens matter,” she said.
She prayed for the repose of Sommie’s soul and urged her family and colleagues to find strength in the impactful legacy she left behind.
