The Founder of the Chidi C. Onyeeze Humanitarian Foundation and Governorship Candidate of the Accord Party in Anambra State, Dr Chidi C. Onyeeze, has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a promising journalist and lawyer whose life was brutally cut short during an armed robbery incident in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dr. Onyeeze described Somtochukwu as “a brilliant, vibrant, and promising young lady, not only a shining star in journalism but also an illustrious daughter of Anambra whose future held immense possibilities.”
He lamented that her death represents not only a personal loss to her family but also a collective tragedy for Anambra State and Nigeria at large. According to him, the young broadcaster’s demise highlights the country’s lingering challenge of inadequate and unreliable security systems.
“It is heartbreaking to imagine that such a bright future could be wasted so easily simply because our country has continued to grapple with insecurity. No family should have to endure such avoidable pain,” Dr. Onyeeze said.
On behalf of his family, the C.C. Onyeeze Humanitarian Foundation, and the Accord Party in Anambra State, he extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the management and staff of ARISE News, and all friends and loved ones of the late journalist.
While praying for the peaceful repose of her soul, Dr. Onyeeze called on security agencies to act swiftly in apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators of the crime, stressing that justice for Somtochukwu is the least Nigeria owes her memory and others who have fallen victim to violent crimes.
He further noted that though her life was cut short at a tender age, Somtochukwu’s legacy of brilliance, passion, and service will remain a source of inspiration.
