The Accord Party gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, Dr. Chidi Onyeeze, has promised to review the minimum wage of civil servants in the state to ₦200,000 monthly, should he emerge victorious at the polls.
Dr. Onyeeze made this bold declaration on Wednesday during the official flag-off ceremony of the Accord Party campaign held at Finotel Hotels, Awka, where party members, supporters, and stakeholders gathered to witness what many described as a “new dawn in Anambra politics.”
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Onyeeze said the welfare of workers will be at the forefront of his administration, stressing that the current wages in the state are no longer sustainable considering the harsh economic realities facing Nigerians.
“Our workers deserve a decent living wage. It is unjust for men and women who dedicate their lives to public service to go home with salaries that cannot even feed their families for a week,” Onyeeze declared.
“Under my watch, no Anambra worker will earn less than ₦200,000 monthly. We must restore dignity to labour and give our people a sense of hope again.”
“I urge political leaders at all levels to desist from deceiving the very people who entrusted them with the responsibility of leadership. Any incumbent governor who resorts to promising citizens one or two million naira, rather than presenting his record of achievements, only exposes his fear and incompetence. True leaders seek votes based on performance, not inducement.”
The Accord Party standard bearer also unveiled his strategic plan to combat insecurity through massive job creation, arguing that idleness remains one of the root causes of crime in society.
“We will fight crime not just with guns, but with jobs,” Onyeeze added. “A person who is meaningfully engaged will not have the time or desire to indulge in criminal activities. We will attract investments and partner with development agencies, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, to create thousands of jobs for Ndi Anambra.”
The event attracted several party stalwarts and supporters across the 21 local government areas of the state.
“Dr. Onyeeze’s 200,000 naira minimum wage proposal is not just a promise; it’s a statement of intent to prioritize human capital. We have studied his blueprint, and it is both practical and achievable,” a party stalwart emphasized.
“For the first time, we have a candidate talking about real solutions; jobs, skills, and opportunities. That’s the kind of leadership young people are ready to vote for,” he stated.
The flag-off ceremony concluded with cheers as party supporters chanted solidarity songs, pledging to deliver victory for Accord Party at the polls.
