Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has officially been presented with his Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following his victory in the just-concluded governorship election.
The presentation took place on Tuesday at the INEC headquarters in Awka, where the Supervising National Commissioner and Chairman of the Tenders Board, Mr. Ken Ukeagu, handed over the certificate to the re-elected governor amidst cheers from supporters and party loyalists.
Professor Soludo, who secured a commanding 422,662 votes to beat his closest challenger, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes, expressed deep gratitude to Ndi Anambra for renewing his mandate.
In his address, Governor Soludo lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the enabling environment that ensured a transparent and peaceful electoral exercise, describing the development as a promising sign for Nigeria’s democracy. He also commended INEC officials and security agencies for their professionalism and neutrality during the poll.
According to him, the successful conduct of the election has marked a milestone, as it served as the first major electoral outing under the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN), who, he said, has earned public confidence through a credible process.
“Anambra people have once again shown faith in democracy and in our administration’s vision for transformation. The electoral system is clearly improving, and this election has reinforced that progress. Votes truly counted, and the will of the people prevailed,” Soludo stated.
While reflecting on the voter turnout, he noted that the enthusiasm displayed by the electorate was unprecedented and symbolic of the growing trust in democratic institutions.
In his remarks, INEC’s Supervising Commissioner, Ken Ukeagu, emphasized that the Certificate of Return represents not just a recognition of victory, but also a call to greater service. He urged the governor to approach the next phase of leadership with renewed dedication to advancing the welfare and aspirations of Anambra citizens.
