Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Pan-Igbo Group Announces Igbo Writing Competition To Immortalize Legacy of Prof. Engr. Philip Atanmo

Anambra Central People’s Forum in partnership with the Ohanaeze Ndigbo World-Wide is proud to announce the launch of the annual ” Prof. Engr. Philip Nwabueze Atanmo Memorial Igbo Language Essay Competition for Secondary School Students in Anambra State”, dedicated to preserving the legacy of the late Isimmili Ogidi, as fondly called.

As a stalwart proponent of Igbo heritage, Prof. Engr. Philip Nwabueze Atanmo’s life embodied the core values of Igbo language advocacy and cultural renaissance. This commemorative initiative aims to ensure his dedication to academic excellence continues to inspire future generations.

“We must solidify the monumental legacies of our heroes for posterity, lest our celebrated legends fade away, especially in a society like ours where people are easily forgotten and consigned to the dustbin of history no sooner than they are gone”, said Mazi Achebe Chris, the State Chairman of the Anambra Central People’s Forum.

He added: “This commemorative Igbo Language Essay Competition is a fitting tribute to a leader who served humanity with wisdom and maintained a deep connection to our cultural roots”.

Prof. Engr. Philip Nwabueze Atanmo prior to his demise, has served in many capacities as the Anambra State President and National Vice-President respectively of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World-Wide at various times. He was the Project Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited. He was associated with the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University as Professor Emeritus and Dean of Engineering and Environmental Sciences at various times.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo World-Wide in their recent Press communique, described the late Prof. Engr. (Sir) Philip Nwabueze Atanmo as a superlative Academic, Political, Religious, Practical and Theoretical Personality; a Great gift to mankind and indeed, a Legend.

“Another Iroko has fallen, Ndigbo Mourns”, the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World-Wide ably led by Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, stated.

Meanwhile, the “Prof. Engr. Philip Nwabueze Atanmo Annual Memorial Igbo Language Essay Competition “, begins on Tuesday, 7th April, 2026 and ends on Tuesday, 12th May, 2026.

This Year’s Theme is centered on: “The Role of Igbo Stakeholders in Cultural Re-Awakening and Revival: Lessons From Engr. Prof. Philip Nwabueze Atanmo’s Legacy “.
