Pan-Igbo Group Announces Annual Igbo Language Essay Competition In Honour of Anambra’s Finest, Dr. Anthony Anakwenze

In an effort to ensure that the rich Igbo language, culture and heritage are preserved and not allowed to go into extinction, a dedicated socio-cultural organization committed to the preservation and promotion of rich cultural heritage and academic excellence in Igbo language studies in Anambra State, the Anambra Central People’s Forum have instituted “The Dr. Nwachukwu Anthony Anakwenze Annual Igbo Language Essay Competition for Secondary School Students in Anambra State”.

In a Press Release made available to journalists in Awka, yesterday, and jointly signed by its Chairman and Secretary-General, the prestigious socio-cultural association said: “We share in the joy which pervades all of Anambra State on account of this worthy recognition of a Great Son of Anambra State, Anambra’s Finest, a Mighty Tree, Enigma in the Traditional Circle and Beacon of Light for Humanity, Dr. Nwachukwu Anthony Anakwenze (MD, MPH, MBA).”Hailing from a proud Igbo heritage in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State,

Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze is an Amercan-based Medical Practitioner and successful Entrepreneur who has served as the Traditional Prime Minister (Onowu) of Abagana kingdom, prior to his recent appointment as Regent.

He is the Founding Chairman of the Igbo World Assembly, the umbrella body representing Ndigbo across more than 20 Countries World-wide.

The Press Statement Continued: “We have followed his exemplary contributions to the development of our State and his unwavering commitment to promoting indigenous values and worthy educational causes. His notable achievements have positioned him as a role model for the younger generation, making him a worthy beacon of success.

“In view of the alarming rate at which the Igbo language is losing its vibrancy among our youths, our reputable public organization has resolved to launch an annual Igbo Language Promotion Initiative in his name. Highlighting the significance of the “Dr. Nwachukwu Anthony Anakwenze Annual Igbo Language Essay Competition for Secondary School Students in Anambra State”, the Pan-Igbo association emphasized: “The noble initiative focuses on preserving the dying Igbo Mother Tongue which, according to the UNESCO and Language scholars, will be extinct in the nearest future, following the classification of the language as one of the endangered languages of the world.

“It also harmonizes perfectly with UNESCO’s global observance of International Mother Language Day which is celebrated annually on 21st February. Meanwhile, in the association’s Press Statement, it has announced that the “Dr. Nwachukwu Anthony Anakwenze Annual Igbo Language Essay Competition for Secondary School Students in Anambra State “, will commence on Friday, 29th May, 2026 until Friday, 26th June, 2026.

The Pan-Igbo association, along with supporters, urged respected Igbo leaders, Traditional Rulers and Community Leaders across Igbo-speaking States to actively support the Igbo Language Preservation Campaign, as always.
