Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, has been appointed the South-East Zonal Director of Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 presidential election.
Her appointment is contained in the composition of the APC Presidential Campaign Council released on Saturday, August 22, 2026, and announced in a State House statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The appointment places Ekwunife in a strategic position within the APC’s presidential campaign structure, with responsibility for coordinating election planning, mobilisation and monitoring activities across the South-East geopolitical zone.
The APC Presidential Campaign Council will be chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with Vice President Kashim Shettima serving as Vice Chairman. The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is also listed as Vice Chairman, while former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, will serve as Director-General.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State will serve as Secretary of the campaign council, while APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
For the Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring Directorate, James Abiodun Faleke has been appointed Deputy Director-General and will work with zonal directors across the six geopolitical zones.
Ekwunife will coordinate the South-East, while Senator Olushola Adeyeye will oversee the South-West; Dr. Ngozi Olejeme, the South-South; Muntaqha Rabe, the North-West; Ahmed Muhammed Ketso, the North-Central; and Senator Sani Danladi, the North-East.
The structure gives Ekwunife a prominent role in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election in the South-East, including coordination of the party’s electoral planning and monitoring activities across the zone.
Other senior appointments include Senator Adams Oshiomhole as Deputy Director-General in charge of Mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff will serve as Deputy Director-General for Administration.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have also been designated Deputy Directors-General for the campaign in the South and North, respectively. They will work with Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Senator Jibril Barau across the two zones.
The campaign council also comprises directorates responsible for legal affairs, media and strategic communication, new media, election planning and other critical areas of campaign operations.
The Media and Strategic Communication Directorate will be coordinated by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
Five spokespersons have also been appointed, with Dele Alake serving as the lead spokesperson.
President Tinubu, while charging members of the campaign council with the responsibility of securing victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections, urged them to work tirelessly and engage other party members whose contributions could strengthen the campaign.
The President said the campaign would highlight the administration’s achievements, communicate its vision for the country and inspire Nigerians as the party enters the campaign season.
With the appointment, Senator Uche Ekwunife now occupies a key position in the APC’s 2027 presidential campaign architecture, particularly in the South-East, where she will be expected to coordinate the party’s election planning, mobilisation support and monitoring efforts across the region.
