The political temperature in Anambra Central rose on Saturday as APC stakeholders across the senatorial district rallied behind Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, FCNA, declaring their readiness to mobilise support for the APC across the ballot in the 2027 general elections.
At a strategic stakeholders’ meeting in Awka, party leaders, women leaders, campaign officials and grassroots stakeholders endorsed Ekwunife as the party’s senatorial candidate and called for unity ahead of the election.
Ekwunife told the gathering that the APC would take its campaign to the people on the strength of its record, while she would equally present her own record of service across communities.
“Every community I go to, I can point out projects I did for them,” she said, adding that her legislative initiative contributed to the establishment of very important projects and programmes. The APC senatorial candidate said the purpose of the meeting was to bring party members together and establish a common strategy for the election.
“Let’s set our differences aside and target the goal post, which is winning for APC from bottom to top,. We are voting for our party candidates because Nigeria is running a constitutional democracy,” she declared. She maintained that party members had a responsibility to support their party’s candidates during the general election, insisting that the campaign would seek votes for APC candidates across the ballot.
The APC has been intensifying its grassroots mobilisation in Anambra ahead of 2027, with Ekwunife previously urging ward and local government leaders to return to their areas, reconcile members and strengthen the party structure.
South-East Zonal Women Leader, Hon. Dr Oby Ajih, described Ekwunife as “my leader” and urged Anambra Central voters to recognise the significance of having a woman with Ekwunife’s political experience contesting the seat. “She is a mother who remembers,” Ajih said.
A major APC stakeholder, Chief Emeka Eze, also declared his commitment to the APC candidate, saying: “I believe in three things: I believe in APC, I believe in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I believe in Senator Uche Ekwunife.”
In his remarks, APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Barr. Dr Ben Nwoye, commended Ekwunife and promoted the party’s “APC 4/4” message; support for APC candidates for President, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly. He however expressed doubts over the claim that the progressives are working together in Anambra State.
Hon. Elijah Onyeagba described Ekwunife as an “Amazon of South-East politics” and praised her political activities in Anambra. The APC candidate for Njikoka, Dunukofia and Anaocha emphasized that the has worked really hard to reposition the party, therefore deserves to be rewarded with massive votes.
The meeting was attended by Barr. Dr Ben Nwoye, Deputy National Chairman of APC; Chief Emeka Okafor, APC Deputy National Organising Secretary (Ide Nnobi); Hon. Dr Oby Ajih, APC Zonal Women Leader, South-East; APC candidate for Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency, Amb. Elijah Onyeagba; and APC candidate for Idemili North and South, Barr. Kingsley Ezekwelu.
Others included the State Secretary of APC, Chief Obi Okpala; Vice Chairman, Anambra Central APC, Chief Augustine Muomife; Prince Dr Emeka Eze; Barr. Kene Nzekwe; Director-General, Senator Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organisation, Hon. Chidi Chidebe; Rev Uche Ukadike of Federal Character Commission, Dr Uju Ejikeme of PTAD , Dr Arthur Mbuba, Mrs Ify Nwachukwu, Okey Chukwuogo Okofia N’Awka, Chief Amobi Nwokafor (Agbakoagbako), and many other key stakeholders.
