….As NBA protests, threaten industrial action

Anambra state Joint Task Force on Security has intensified manhunt for the killers and Kidnappers of two legal practitioners in the area.
Recall that Barr Chukwubiko Azoro was kidnaped by gunmen two weeks ago and is yet to be found while Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Ihiala branch and Principal Counsel Bar Awa P Awa was murdered by gunmen.
This is coming as the Anambra state branches of the Nigerian Bar Association embarked on a protest match threatening to down tools over the two incidents.
Speaking on behalf of Soludo the Anambra state Deputy Governor Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim noted that the security operatives are on top of the moment adding that government will do all it can to arrest and prosecute the culprits.
The Governor stated that protection of life and property of the state’s residents remain top in the agenda of his administration, noted that the government in collaboration with security agents in the state will continue to do the needful to win the war against all forms of insecurity in the state and to make sure that the perpetrators of the acts face the full wrath of the law.
Soludo however regretted the level of insecurity in today’s society, but was quick to add that security is everybody’s business and as such people should collaborate with the government and security agencies to ensure adequate security through provision of necessary information to security agencies and other relevant authorities.
“It is unfortunate and regrettable the state of insecurity across the country and the protection of lives and property is the business of all and sundry hence everyone must assist in providing relevant information that would help nib the matter on the board” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman, Committee of Chairmen and Secretaries, NBA Branches, Anambra State, Barrister Izuchukwu Nsofor who revealed that Barrister Awa was gruesomely murdered by unidentified gunmen at Okija on Sunday 19th May, 2024, while the secretary of Idemili branch of NBA, Barrister Chukwubuike Azoro, was recently kidnapped, called for improve security in the state for the safety of lawyers and other residents in Anambra.
Nsofor stated that the Bar Association is registering it’s unhappiness over the two incidents adding that it is an indication that no one is safe in the country.
