The melodic sound of the local piper at the center of the community could be heard from a distant neighboring town of Agulu in Anaocha local government area of Anambra state.
The sounding of those talking drums blended with the pipers rendition heralding the reception of a son of the soil who left his homestead in search of greener pastures in far land of the White man ; United Kingdom.
The people of Awgbu town in Orumba South local government area of Anambra had on that day rolled out their festive drums to welcome Mr Earnest Ezeajughi Chief Of Staff to Gov Charles Soludo.
The arena St Michel”s Secondary School Field Awgbu was electrifying and the pictorial was indeed colorful as cultural dance troupes , school children and traditional tittle holders adorned in eye catching uniforms exchanging pleasantries among one another.
Also part of the celebration were top government officials who came to felicitate with their colleague at his country home.
President General of Awgbu Town Hon Emma Akidi was on hand to address the crowd about the days reception.
According to him ; “we are proud of his achievements and the impact he has made in our community. His achievements have become the spur many young people rely on to dream big and if he can rise from obscurity to become a Mayor in London and return to become the fulcrum through which the activities of our state , Anambra depend on to function , then the son of Okoye, Nwankwo and Okeke can also afford to dream big ” he said.
Akidi however appealed to Gov Charles Soludo to visit Awgbu again to to flag off the Awgbu- Amaetiti – Okpeze – Ndiukeuelu road project which according to him would help the town connect the four towns and foster economic growth in the area.
Secretary to the State Government Prof Solo Chukwulobelu who represented Gov Charles Soludo urged the community to do away with factional Community politics and join hands in assisting the state government in the development of the town.
He reiterated the Private Public Community Partnership put in place by the Anambra state government noting that the program is aimed at providing a better and easier platform for towns to work with government and attract development to their homes.
The function was yet another opportunity for the son of the soil to admonish his kinsmen on the need for unity of purpose adding that the event is not for him alone but a celebration of those who laid those basic foundation upon which Awgbu town is leveraging on.
“It is not about me but about those who are part finders of the development of our community and we have people that made spirited contributions in one way or the other to the development that we are enjoying today and it doesn’t start and end with me because we have the younger generations that look up to us and we pray that they would follow our steps and achieve greater things than us ” he noted.
Pa Chief Cajethan N Ekwuogo Ichie Agbalanze who was the Chairman of the occasion summed it up when he expressed the joy of the community that such a personality in the corridors of power is their son and thanked Gov Charles Soludo for finding their son competent to be a strong member of his cabinet.
As the guests departed, the Awgbu sons and daughters continued to relish the success story and the joy in the accomplishment of of Mr Earnest Ezeajughi the Prince of the Kingdom.
