Anambra Police Command has deployed officers and men to various security flash points to avert the possibility of hoodlums and miscreants from capitalizing on the nation wide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress to cause breakdown of law and order.
This is coming as the strike action recorded full compliance by workers in the state which was made manifest in the closure of offices , banks and other public offices in the state.
According to the Chairman Nigerian Labour Congress NLC in Anambra state Comerade Humphrey Nwafor who spoke to reporters in Awka;
“We have been on a monitoring tour of public offices in the state and do far we have recorded ninety nine percent compliance by workers in Anambra state and all the offices are closed and the workers are at home in line with the directives of the National leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress”
“We have not recorded any incident or unlawful behavior by anyone and we also have some members charged with the responsibility of ensuring that criminal elements don’t throw spanners into the peaceful actions that we have taken” he said.
Also in the bid to complement the efforts of the NLC in ensuring a crime free strike the police command has deployed officers and men to monitor the major flash points in the state.
In a release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochikwu Ikenga it stated;
“Following the Federal Government’s recent declaration that the planned strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress is illegal and premature, the Anambra State Police Command reiterates the command’s commitment to enforce the legal recommendations and calls for caution to prevent a breach of public safety and peace”
“The Command understands the right of organized labour to engage in such actions to advocate for the interests of all workers, noted the importance of adherence to the existing laws governing such activities; and deployed Police Operatives to different strategic areas, tasked with the responsibility against any miscreants using the opportunity to cause any breach of public safety and peace in the State”
“To this end, the Command encourages the good people of the State to go about their lawful businesses and be law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious.
