…..As power transformer collapses

Over three thousand homes in Agbani – Ifite Village of Awka South local government area of Anambra state has been in darkness over the years, following the collapse of the only power transformer in the area for about seven months now .
Consequent upon this hopeless development residents in the area have been sleeping with one eye closed due to the security challenges by miscreants in the area.
The village that has been using the transformer for more than six years now lamented that due to population explosion of buildings in the area the transformer had to pack up as it can no longer carry the load from those buildings.
According to Mr Chinedu Nwabileri a spokesman for the residents of the village;
“We are in darkness and it has been like this for over seven months now and there seem to be nothing to be done about it “
“We understand that the transformer is old and moribund and the capacity is to low to carry the load due to the increase in the number of buildings in that village and people are building more”
Nwabileri lamented that people go home early as some miscreants and village urchins now capitalize on the darkness to commit crime and attack unsuspecting innocent members of the village”
“You cannot walk around in the evening because those boys hang around and lay ambush for innocent people and rob them of their personal belongings”
“At night they do visit homes to attack and rob people because there is no light and you know the cost of fuel and other petroleum products in the country for one to be using power. generating sets” he said.
Nwabileri however urged Gov Charles Soludo to intervene in provide at least three transformers for the village in view of the increasing number of buildings in the area.
